Mandalas of Time
Club
Literati, Bhopal hosted a curtain-raiser for Malashri Lal’s forthcoming book: Mandalas of Time on 4th August,
2023. It was my privilege to be the
Moderator for the event and chat with Malashri about her poetry and the new
book.
Malashri Lal
retired as Professor, English Department, University of Delhi. She is a writer
and academic with sixteen books to her credit including two books co-authored
with Namita Gokhale -Finding Radha: The Quest for Love, and In Search
of Sita: Revisiting Mythology.
Mandalas
of Time would be
launched at IIC, New Delhi on 5th September, 2023; but the author was
happy to read a few of her poems for the audience and autograph a few books for
poetry lovers of Bhopal.
The topic
for discussion was: Mythologies: Sita, Radha, Mandalas and Beyond. During
the hour-long chat, Malashri spoke about the motif of Mandala, the extensive
use of mythology in her poems, and her overarching concerns about gender and other current issues.
As the
author says in her Preface: Mandalas of Time is an offering to the
luminosity of healing.
